From Agentry 6.0 to SMP 3.0

hi Experts,

I am testing the migration from Agentry 6.0 to SMP 3.0. SMP is a huge package with many different modules. For a short term plan, I will continue the Agentry metadata development with the Agentry 7.0 toolkit. Now I have a few questions regarding Agentry development over SMP 3.0. (I will attend the SMP 3.0 training when they are available later at my region.)

First of all, is there any major feature update list just for Agentry 7.0 compared with 6.0?

I downloaded the SMP 3.0 and SMP SDK 3.0. In the SDK, I found Agentry toolkit. To continue our development with a http/xml backend, I think I need Agentry Editor, Test Environment and Client. According to "Agentry App Development - SAP Mobile Platform 3.0", their installation is pretty much the same as in Agentry 6.0. Then I noticed that there is no longer any Agentry Server. The document does not have a related section so I guess the assumption there is the "server" is already installed and configured.

Then I follow the installation guide of SMP 3.0 and finished the "Developer" installation. I did not install MBO Run Time.

SAP Mobile Platform Server 3.0 SP03 – SAP Help Portal Page

After the SAP Mobile Platform Server starts, I am able to login the cockpit as shown above.

Then I installed the SMP SDK 3.0, it seems that it did not install much but copied different SDK components onto the disk. For example, the Agentry toolkit is copied to C:\SAP\MobileSDK3\AgentryToolkit. And I don't think Agentry develop environment is installed at all. Shall I continue install each item such as Editor/ATE/Client manually? And is the SMP server 3.0 SP03 installation + Agentry Editor + ATE + Client enough for me to continue the Agentry Metadata development with a http/xml backend?

The next step is server configuration. This is a whole new experience compared with Agentry 6.0 and my questions are:

1. Development license

In Agentry 6.0, I have a development license which is required to be input during server's installation and it must be renewed annually. Is it no longer required in SMP? In other words, as long as I have access to SMP SDK, there is no license requiredThere used to be a device limitation ( < 5 concurrent accesses). Is the limitation still there for developer installation?

2. Application

In Agentry 6.0, once the application is published from Editor to the Server, it is automatically deployed. Any user on any device can access it given the client is installed and the account has access.

Here in the SMP Cockpit, the control seems to be with a finer granularity. Do I need to do some pre-registration for my application or once the application is published, it is automatically registered with default setting?

3. Backend Configuration

With Agentry 6.0, I can specify the http backend in Agentry.ini. For SMP 3.0, I found this section.

Configuring HTTP-XML Back-end Connections for Agentry Applications - Administrator - SAP Library

The instructions are below:

  1. From Management Cockpit, select Start of the navigation pathApplicationsNext navigation stepBack EndEnd of the navigation path.
  2. Under HTTPXML, edit HTTPXML-related settings. ....

However, I cannot find Back End config under "Application" (see above screenshot). Is it available after the application is registered/published?

Furthermore, I found the Back End Connection Specification under "Setting" (Shown below.)

However, the input parameters here seem to be different from the previous http/xml configuration in Agentry.ini such as shown below.

How to configure the backend based on my current Agentry.ini then?

4. Application import from Agentry 6.0 to SMP 3.0

My current development is done on Agentry 6.0. Can export it as an agxz file then directly import it to Agentry 7.0 editor ? Or some extra steps are required?

Thanks a lot.
